Disclosure: I received a free copy of this journal in exchange for an honest review
G has been coming with me to adoration regularly for quite some time now. It has become a special treat, a mommy date, precious to us both. So when I found out that Gina over at Someday Saints had written a children’s adoration journal, I was so excited to check it out.
We took it to adoration together, and I thought I’d share some of things that I love about it as a mom, and some of the things that G loves about it as a kid using it.
Colleen’s List
The Introductory Information
If you aren’t sure how to explain adoration to your child; if you aren’t sure how to put into words all that they will see and experience; if you want help explaining what to do during adoration- you will love this journal. Gina will walk you and your child through the entire process in language that a child will understand- simple and concise but not watered down. You’ll find helpful definitions of benediction and exposition as well as things to do during adoration. Gina also answers common questions like “what if I fall asleep?”
The Combination of Variety and Depth
Clearly someone who knows kids (hello, she’s got 6), Gina has compiled a variety of activities, coloring pages, meditations, and prayers. There are 64 pages of fabulous content, and I am excited for us to delve further into it. I love that this journal will become something that we use each time we go to adoration, doing a couple of pages at a time.
The Orthodoxy
I’m a stickler for Catholic items being truly Catholic, and not just as far as doctrine, but the best possible presentation of things that are truly Catholic. This falls into that box. Gina weaves traditional prayers and scripture seamlessly into her adoration journal, making it a wonderful teaching tool.
G’s List
The Space for Decorating
Her little creative spirit loves to adorn any and all page with decorations and borders and little drawings, which makes this journal just perfect for her. Every page has large margins with just that in mind, and there are blank pages and beautiful graphics to color sprinkled throughout. G was so excited to see all of the white space, just waiting for her to create something for Jesus.
The Prayer Prompts
G is still learning how to pray, and the prayer prompts that Gina gives were great for helping her to find the words to pray on her own. I honestly could have mentioned this one on my list too, because I loved the way it helps her have a conversation with Jesus.
If you are looking for a resource to help your child understand adoration and build their own personal relationship with Jesus, look no further. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Gina also has a special package that just launched which includes a hard copy of the journal, sweet little tote for kiddos, stickers, and an AMAZING holy card. Personally, I think this would make a perfect 1st Reconciliation, Christmas, 1st Communion, or Easter gift. . . or really just anytime.
