Yikes, it’s hard to believe it’s 2020 already. Am I the only one still writing 2019 on things? It always takes me til about February to consistently remember the new year.
I’ve never really been one for New Year’s Resolutions (thank you Kelly for your honesty on that- I’m in total agreement with you on the saints too, by the by), but I do have some areas that I’ve been working on and want to continue digging down into this year, so I thought I’d share those.
Prayer Time
With the help of my awesome Magnificat subscription, I’ve gotten very consistent about morning prayer, and I’m grateful for that growth. I’m hoping to build on it this year and also to get more consistent at sitting down again for an evening prayer session first thing once the kids are in bed.
I’m also hoping to get more consistent about praying with the kiddos. Mark is exceptional at it at bedtime, but I have a tendency to just DONE by the time bedtime rolls around, and I need to remember to pour myself out a little bit more and pray blessings over my children before they sleep.
And speaking about praying with kiddos- G has been joining my morning prayer time since turning five thanks to this fabulous kids prayer journal from Rakstar Designs. It has been the perfect tool for introducing her to the practice of keeping a spiritual journal. And it has become such a special time of day to us both.
Writing Consistently
I have found in this past year that writing brings me a lot of peace and a lot of fulfillment, and honing that skill is something that I want to keep working on this next year. My head is full of book ideas and blog post ideas that are dying to get put down on paper. I just enjoy the process of an idea coming to fruition, of working through drafts, playing with wording, scrapping something entirely, of praying through it and working on it until it’s ready.
I’m hoping to keep taking time to write, to sit down to the computer and work on book drafts and blog posts with more regularity, and also to continue building community with other writers.
I’m also working on reading more because reading quality writing makes my own writing better. (My current reads are here)
Healthy Eating
This past year I managed to cut *most* refined sugar from my diet. I still like a glass of red wine and a piece of chocolate, but I was able to finally get off the sugar cravings train, and I feel so much better. I have no goals about losing the last of the baby weight from Charlotte, there are about 7lbs that don’t seem to want to come off ever, but I am intending to do my best to stick to the low-sugar diet we’re on.
Healthy eating can be hard when Mark is working so much and the entirety of family life falls on me, but I’ve found some tricks that have helped me to consistently make good choices. Breadmaking has become a great staple of my morning routine, and has helped us cut a lot of preservatives (and refined sugar as the recipe I use uses honey). And my mom and I spent a day this past summer prepping and freezing fresh veggies which now fill our chest freezer. These are quick and healthy additions to an egg skillet- which is my go to meal when Mark is working late.
And that’s about it. Nothing earth shattering, but I’ve found that this isn’t the stage of life for earth shattering or life changing, at least not for me. I do much better, succeed much more, with small, consistent steps in the directions that I want to go in.
How about you? What are your goals this new year? I’m linking up with Kelly so click on over to read hers and the rest of the 7QTs.
