We love arts and crafts over here, and despite the fact that most of our stuff is packed and our moving date is just after Easter, I couldn’t imagine not doing at least some Easter crafts with the kids.
Today we took a stab at some simple Easter cards, and I think they turned out pretty cute. Here’s how we made them.
Supplies:
- water color paper
- liquid water colors
- brushes
- crayon or oil pastel
- salt
- colored card stock
- glue
- scissors
The first step was tracing an egg shape onto the water color paper. Once I had traced a bunch, I cut them out.
Then the kids used an oil pastel (though crayon would work just as well) to draw patterns on the eggs. I did a sample of different patterns on a scrap piece of water color paper to give them ideas.
Once they had their patterns drawn, it was time to color the eggs. I let them choose 2 colors at a time to keep it simple, and they had fun painting their eggs and watching the water resist the crayon.
We sprinkled kosher salt to add to the patterning. It also helped to dry the eggs more quickly.
As the paint dried, Gianna got to practice her folding technique to make the cards. Then the kids glued the eggs to the front of the card. Later on they’ll write messages (dictated) and color pictures on the insides for family members.
